Missions Education

WMU® provides ongoing missions education through Children in ActionSM and Girls in Action®.  These organizations help children develop a missional lifestyle and a Biblical worldview. Children learn how God is working around the world, and engage in ministry projects throughout the year.

Children in Action and Girls in Action (GA®) share the same missions focus each month. Children in Action is geared for co-ed groups, while GA is for girls only.

During the first week of each month, children learn the biblical basis of missions. During the second week, they are introduced to a specific ministry and its missionaries or missions leaders. They spend the third week looking at how that ministry serves people. Finally, during the fourth week, they participate in a hands-on ministry project in their own community or to people in another part of the world .

During February of 2008, children learned about Indonesia. By the end of the month, they had discovered that Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. They learned the Scripture passage Matthew 9:35–38, and explored how this passage applies to their own lives. They saw how missionaries are ministering to the people of Indonesia. By the end of the month they knew some of the differences between Christianity and Islam, and were aware that God has called Christians to tell Muslims about Jesus.

Weekly activities in GA and Children in Action are based on a variety of learning styles. Through a variety of fun and engaging activities, children learn Scripture, pray for missions, engage in mission action and witness, learn about different ministries, develop spiritually toward a missions lifestyle, and participate in the work of the church and denomination.
